Transport Support Volunteer - Taunton Assisted Discharge Service
Location: Somerset
Commitment: Volunteers must be able to commit to at least a 4 hour shift per week weekdays between 9am - 5pm Monday-Friday. Minimum commitment of 6 months in the role. Age: 18+
Must be able to drive with access to their own vehicle. Journeys always start from Taunton. Volunteers must live close, within 20 minutes.
Volunteers provide health and social care support through our Independent Living service that aims to support people experiencing a health crisis. From supporting people resettle into their homes after being discharged from hospital to supporting someone connect with others following a recent diagnosis of a long-term health condition.
What would I be doing?
You will be helping provide practical and emotional support to people. Every individual will need different support from us to help, below are some examples of what you might support with:
- Taking someone on a short trip or helping them run errands, providing door-to-door assistance for an appointment or visit.
- Offering a trained volunteer escort and conveying passengers safely from their starting point to their final destination either in BRC vehicles or in the driver's own vehicle.
- Accompanying someone on a public transport journey, enabling clients to keep appointments safely and efficiently.
