Volunteer Kitchen Assistant
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable individual who can provide assistance to our kitchen chef in our busy Registered Care Home by ensuring that the kitchen is kept clean, tidy and organised and who can assist the chef in food preparation.
Role Specifications:
Dishwashing
General kitchen cleaning
Food preparation
Help with unloading and putting away weekly deliveries
In the chefs absence, the volunteer kitchen assistant will help other members of the staff team to provide stand-in support with preparation of meals, kitchen checks, running of the kitchen and clean-away after service.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to gain experience in a kitchen in a care home environment.
We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual who is over the age of 18 and motivated to help others and disadvantaged groups. You should have good interpersonal skills, be non-judgmental and be able to communicate with an all-male client group differing in age and vulnerability in a caring and respectful manner.
Although we would prefer that you hold a current Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification, food hygiene training can be provided if you don't have it already.
You must be willing to take direction from the Kitchen Chef.
Hours are flexible to suit the volunteer, but we do ask that you commit to a regular time if possible.
Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
Induction and training will be provided.
Please note that, due to Covid, volunteers are not currently permitted onto our projects. However, if you would like to express an interest in this role we will continue with your recruitment and will arrange for you to visit as soon as Covid restrictions allow.

House of St. Martin in Taunton is Langley’s flagship care home. It is a registered care home for men with multiple needs, including substance misuse issues, mental health needs or a learning disability. It provides accommodation for men who require disabled access.
