Detailed description
Voluntary Board Member Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West providing support, housing and hope to people across the West of England and Somerset. We promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures. Our voluntary Board member opportunities are exciting and influential roles within Second Step. Our Board vacancies provide strategic guidance in accordance with our vision, aims and values. The role of a Board member can be demanding at times, but it is always incredibly rewarding. These are great opportunities for people keen to offer their skills and experience to make a real contribution to a vibrant and growing not for profit organisation. Our roots are in Bristol, where we have worked for 30+ years, now our reach is across the West of England and Somerset, with ambitions further afield. We support more than 1,000 people at any one time. We form strong, collaborative relationships with the people who use our services, supporting them through difficult times and helping them discover new ways to become more independent and resilient. We don’t mind if you haven’t got a background in the mental health sector just as long as you share our vision and can show you’re ready willing and able to make a positive and lasting contribution to the leadership of Second Step. We would particularly welcome applicants with skills and experience in the way services are commissioned and delivered and experience of living and/or working in Somerset. The Board meets quarterly and holds at least two Board development away days. Every Board member is also a member of one sub-committee, which meet quarterly. There are also various other meetings, events and training and the time commitment, including reading and preparation time for meetings, is estimated to be an average of one day per month.
