Summary

The Trustees of Conquest Centre are actively looking to strengthen the board with 2 new Trustees and a Treasurer.

Detailed description

TRUSTEE COMMITMENT

Trustees play a crucial role in supporting the work of the centre by being responsible for governance, strategy, major projects and finance. The ethos of Conquest Centre is built on a strong culture of mutual respect and co-operation; staff and Trustees work as one team who all support each other and build on each other’s strengths.

Board meetings are bi-monthly and usually at 4 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, they normally run for approximately 2 – 3 hours and are either held at the centre or at the Chairman’s office in Taunton. The term of appointment is not set but a commitment of at least 3 years would be preferable.

The centre now has 20 staff, of which only 3 are full time. Staff manage the day-to-day activities and volunteers on site and Trustees step in to work in support for projects. For example, recent projects involved site repairs and upgrades, and these were project managed by a Trustee    supported by centre staff. The Trustee managed obtaining quotations, managing contractors on site, keeping projects to timescales, ensuring invoices were paid on time and other essential   project management tasks. On average Trustees commit approximately 1—2 hours per week.

Other projects may include HR matters, health and safety, risk management, legal issues, policy management, media or      marketing projects. Day to day Trustees are responsible for future proofing financial      stability, governance and statutory              obligations. Some things may be discussed by email, between meetings, but on the whole meetings are intended to be the forum for  discussion, sharing opinions and reaching resolutions.
