Do you enjoy 1:1 company and conversation and have a couple of hours available to visit someone once a fortnight local to where you live?

Detailed description

Do you enjoy 1:1 company and conversation and have a couple of hours available to visit someone once a fortnight? If so please consider joining our charity Somerset Sight which supports people with sight loss across the County. Our volunteer befrienders are carefully matched up with a local person who has sight loss to visit them on a regular basis for company and often to help with reading, sometimes to take them out. Losing one’s sight makes everything in life more difficult, the regular company of a volunteer makes a huge difference to the quality of people’s lives. Volunteers also benefit from the visits. One of our volunteers said recently “My husband can always tell when I have been visiting my lady as I come home in such a good mood!” If you have a little time available and would like to help please contact our office in Taunton for further details.

About Somerset Sight

We know that life doesn't stop just because your sight has been affected. Our aim is to provide services, training and leisure activities that will help maintain independence and improve the quality of life of anyone who is affected by sight loss Working In Partnership. We have always valued our links with other organisations and have a good working relationship with Somerset County Council who contribute towards the cost of running our Visiting service and other services. We have good links with other sight loss organisations including RNIB, Action for Blind People and Guide Dogs for the Blind. As an independent local charity we are members of Visionary - linking local sight loss charities.
We started in 1919 so now over 100 years old. In 2019 we were very proud to receive the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
