Summary

Are you looking to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life? Do you have a little time to spare each week? Volunteer as a Befriender today!

Detailed description

What does a befriender do? Our befriending service connects volunteers with older individuals in need of companionship. As a volunteer befriender, you could:

  • Visit an older person in their home for a friendly chat and a cup of tea
  • Accompany them to local activities, such as a café or the theatre
  • Provide support on occasional trips to doctor’s or hospital appointments
  • Offer friendship over the phone for those who prefer remote conversations

What’s in it for you?

  • The rewarding experience of making a positive impact on someone’s life
  • Flexible commitment—just a small amount of your time each week can make a big difference
  • The chance to build connections and give back to your community

Whether you're young or old, a little companionship can go a long way in brightening someone’s day. Join us at Age UK in our mission to combat loneliness and bring joy to those who need it most.

About Age UK Banes

Become a Digital Champion: Volunteer Opportunity

Do you want to make a difference in your community?
Join our Click Café team as a Digital Champion and help older adults (55+) stay connected in an increasingly digital world. No need to be a tech whiz - if you can use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop for everyday tasks, you’re exactly who we’re looking for. Sometimes, you’ll even be learning alongside the person you’re supporting, figuring things out together!

What’s the role?
As a Digital Champion, you’ll provide 1-on-1 support to people who need help with basic online tasks like sending emails, booking appointments, or ordering prescriptions. Your guidance can help prevent digital exclusion, which often leads to isolation and difficulty accessing essential services.

When and where?
• St. Michael's Day Centre, Bath: Every Wednesday, 10 am - 12 pm.

• Keynsham Library: Starting in January, first Wednesday of the month, 2 pm - 4 pm.

• Hope House Surgery, Radstock: Starting in January, first Tuesday of the month,
10 am - 12 pm.

• 1-on-1 Home Visits: Available in the Bath and North East Somerset areas.

Flexible Commitment Volunteer weekly, monthly, or on an ad-hoc basis. Whatever suits your schedule. We offer full training and support, and you’ll enjoy free tea and biscuits while you volunteer.

Interested? Apply now to find out more about how you can help prevent digital exclusion in your community. We’d love to chat with you about how you can get involved!
