Detailed description

VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION

Evergreen House Volunteer Support Worker

Hours:                                Three to four per week

Department:                      Connect Centre: Evergreen House

Location:                            7 Churchill Road, Wells, BA5 3HZ

Reports to:                         Housing Pathways Leader – Dylan Sawyer

 

Purpose:

Be a supporting presence to the residents where staff cannot, liaise with staff and other volunteers at Evergreen, as well as assist and support the residents where appropriate (this can include helping with budgeting, cooking, taking part in activities, and giving lifts to help them get to appointments).

 

Essential Characteristics:

 

-                The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people

-                Ability to work with diversity

-                Understand the necessity for confidentiality

-                Motivated and enthusiastic

-                Kind, patient, tolerant and approachable

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

To participate in essential training and development.

Answer phone and/or transfer messages to appropriate staff member.

Answer queries or signpost to staff or other agencies as appropriate.

Maintain office filing and storage systems when appropriate.

Co-ordinate and organise appointments and bookings alongside staff

Contribute to events and projects.

Maintain confidentiality.

Report or deal with any health and safety issues regarding the building and residents as appropriate,

Help settle in new residents and ease them into Evergreen House

 

Volunteer Expectations:

·     Core Competencies Training (Boundaries, safeguarding, GDPR, Risk assessments and reading and understanding polices)

·     Writing up notes of time spent with residents

·     DBS 

·     Supervision every 2 months

·     Review every 6 months

About Connect Community Church

A church based community centre in the heart of Wells. We run a day centre for those needing support especially around rough sleeping and run Somerset East's rough sleeper hostel.
We run several drop in sessions during the week, offering signposting to other agencies and have a Housing First service for the most vulnerable with complex needs.
