Summary

Love meeting people and passionate about healthy food? We're looking for volunteer sales assistants at Lesser Litter - Taunton's first zero waste food shop.

Detailed description

Purpose of role

To ensure the shop gives the best possible service to its customers, making sure that they are welcomed, served promptly and courteously. To work alongside the paid staff member and other volunteers and ensure the shop is kept in good order and complies with food hygiene and health and safety regulations.

Key Tasks for this role include:

●      Weighing out customers’ orders

●      Handling money and operating the card payment machine

●      Answering customers’ enquiries about shop products

●      Keeping the shelves stocked

●      Keeping the shop area clean and tidy

We are looking for people who:

●      Are friendly and engaging

●      Enjoy working and interacting with the public

●      Are security conscious and observant

●      Are diligent and reliable

●      Are committed to the environment, eating healthily and reducing waste

Previous experience of working or volunteering in a retail environment would be welcomed but is not essential as a full induction and ongoing training will be provided. Applicants should be aware that the role involves being on your feet, bending and carrying.

Support and training

Volunteers for this role will be required to have or to take a Food Hygiene Level 2 and a food allergy qualification. Course fees will be paid for by EFCT. You complete the courses online in your own time. They take around 3 to 4 hours to complete.

They will also be given training in operating the weighing scales, the till and card payment system, personal safety and an introduction to the shop stock.

Benefits

●       Free tea/coffee when on duty

●       The chance to learn new skills and build up existing ones

●       The opportunity to make new friends and work within a team

●       The opportunity to be part of a new environmentally responsible social enterprise

Volunteer hours

Ideally sales assistant shifts will be in whole or ½ day blocks. We would like to be able to offer shorter blocks, but this will depend on numbers of volunteers available.

Though we would prefer a regular weekly commitment we are planning to set up a rota sign up system so that you can volunteer for as many or as few shifts as you are able to do. Please indicate any preferences/availability when you apply.
