We are looking for volunteers to walk our lovely dogs, do you have any spare time?

Detailed description

We are looking for volunteers to support with the exercising of our dogs on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.



Volunteer Role profile

 

Role Title: Dog Walking Volunteer

Responsible to: Animal Care Manager

Location: Wambrook, Chard, Somerset TA20 3DH

Time Commitment: Flexible – although we welcome a minimum of two hours per week


Role description:

To assist with walking and caring for the dogs at Ferne.

 

You could get involved in tasks like dog walking, feeding, grooming, agility, and generally improving the lives of the dogs in our kennels. 

 

Main tasks:

Depending on your skills, knowledge and experience you could provide the Sanctuary with support in one of more of the following areas;

·       Dog Walking

·       Life enrichment

·       Agility for fun/ encouraging play with toys

·       Grooming

·       Obedience training

·       Socialisation

·       Cleaning the kennels

·       Feeding

 

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

·       A love of animals and of dogs in particular

·       Experience of dog handling and socialisation desirable

·       Team working

·       The ability to work alone

·       Communication

·       Enthusiasm for animal welfare

 

Training and support available

All Volunteers of the Sanctuary will be given an induction to familiarise them with the Sanctuary.

 

Specific instruction will be given in regards to dog walking and socialisation.

Please note the above arrangements are binding in honour only and not intended to be legally binding.

 

Reliable transport is essential as the Sanctuary is in a rural location.

 

Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times when outside the kennels.
