Detailed description

Aim of volunteering role: To help Heads Up tutors deliver activities and give general assistance to our clients who may have dementia or other mental health challenges, during the creative & wellbeing workshop days.

 

Typical Tasks:

·       To be welcoming to clients and help create a supportive environment

·       To assist tutors in group or on-to-one activities which may include crafting

·       To sit and listen to clients to help support them in a patient and empathetic way

·       To carry out tasks as instructed by your supervisor, you may be asked to help with preparing and tidying activity rooms and help with setting up for lunch and clearing away

·       To follow all instruction and training given on health & safety and safeguarding

 

Time commitment: Tuesdays 10.30 - 3pm, which runs every week, but you are not expected to attend every session.

Where: Heads Up, Upper Breach, South Horrington, Wells, Somerset, BA5 3QG

 

 What you need to have:

·       This role has a minimum age of 18

·       An interest in the work of Heads Up

·       Be naturally patient with excellent listening skills and have good common sense

·       Have a friendly and outgoing personality, with personal resilience in sometimes challenging situations

·       Some experience of crafting/creative activities would be helpful but not essential

·       Flexibility and the ability to follow instruction and get involved with practical tasks as needed.

About Heads Up

Heads Up provides day services to individuals experiencing mental health issues, including Dementia. In recent years we have developed an Outreach service with a team who are community based. Through creative activity workshops we provide support to enable individuals to establish links to their local community and through learning, gain new skills, develop self-knowledge and tools for personal wellbeing, to access opportunities, to spend time with others and build social networks and to build an awareness of a broad range of social, educational, employment and life choices.
