In The Mix volunteer youth workers help to facilitate our youth groups for young people.

Detailed description

We are looking for volunteers to join our fantastic team of youth workers. Being part of ITMP offers an opportunity to really make a difference to the lives young people, volunteers help to facilitate our regular groups for young people.


This voluntary role will help you to develop your skills and experience whilst supporting young people in a group environment. You will be provided with appropriate training for the role. Applications are encouraged from people who have lived or from those who have an understanding of what barriers and difficulties may face. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a professional team within the services we provide and our work in communities, with families, and children and young people.


What We’re Looking For:

An ability to listen and demonstrate empathy is essential for this role. Some experience of working with children and young people in a voluntary or paid capacity is desirable. Driving licence desirable as we often work in more rural communities taking services to those in need.


We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of 6-months within the role. Whilst volunteering is flexible, we also ask that you can offer at least 2.5 hours of support at the session / group you support at a regular time. We offer a number of sessions during the week including evening and weekends.


All new volunteers will be required to complete essential online training courses as part of their induction. Dependant on the type of role undertaken additional training may be also required to meet service expectations. 


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for various events and youth group activities.
  • Collaborate with other ITMP staff and professionals.
  • Assist in organising and facilitating activities and workshops for young people.
  • Support extracurricular activities like our holiday clubs or community events.

About In The Mix Project

In the Mix Project is a youth and community charity (no. 1161486) based in Wiveliscombe, Somerset. We provide youth and community provision to children and young people aged predominately between 8 and 25 who live and work in Somerset.

ITMP provides professional youth work support and advice to young people, relating to issues prevalent to themselves, their communities and their environment. Young people have access to regular youth sessions or projects, which provide informal educational activities, and positive opportunities that enhance their learning and personal, social, emotional and professional development.
