Summary

To support someone who has been bereaved by suicide by providing a space for them to talk about their loss.

Detailed Description

Please note that we will only consider applicants for this role who have been bereaved at least over a year ago and who have received their own support around their loss.


Hours required: Flexible dependant on the numbers in the group you are supporting. Will be required to attend supervision group once a month.

Main purpose of role: 

  • Support someone who has been bereaved by suicide providing a space for them to talk about their loss.
  • Work to an agreed plan/process for Buddy engagements.
  • Understanding of GDPR.

Location:

  • Home-telephone/text/Whatsapp support

Training provided:

  • Safeguarding for vulnerable adults & children.
  • SSBSS project overview and where the role fits within it
  • Supervision, support and self-care.

Person specification:

  • Livid experience of bereavement by suicide
  • Someone the newly bereaved knows understands the difficulties and emotions around being bereaved by suicide.
  • Be able to show hope after loss to suicide.
  • A willingness to learn about suicide prevention in all its forms.
  • To act in strict confidentiality
  • The understanding that the client is always under the responsibility of SSBSS and the Buddy will act in accordance to the policies and procedures of Mind in Somerset.


All new volunteers will be required to complete 5 essential online training courses as part of their induction into the Charity. Dependant on the type of volunteer role undertaken, additional training may be also required to meet service expectations.
