Summary
Offering practical & emotional support, and advice to people attending festivals and similar events. Prior experience in social care, mental health etc needed.Detailed description
NEWS provides welfare support teams to events like festivals, and similar. We are looking for responsible and reliable people with excellent people skills; a good standard of verbal & written English is necessary for the job. Priority will be given to those with experience in youth work, social care, first aid etc but demonstrable transferable skills will also be considered. As we work with children and people in vulnerable circumstances, an advanced DBS check is required; we can assist with this if need be. We welcome diversity, and will make reasonable adjustments where possible but a busy marquee on a greenfield site may be unsuitable for everyone.
Volunteers are expected to be available for the duration of the event, including the Monday of most camping events. You will be expected to work 3 x six hour shifts, one of which will be overnight as the service is open 24 hours. We are fully covered by insurance. You will be given an access pass to the event and will be free to enjoy yourself off shift. Responsible leisure time is encouraged as you may be called upon to help out a small amount in the event of an emergency. This is standard for event work. Some meals will be provided. Staff camping and car parking is included. Some events have dedicated crew showers. Lift sharing and public transport is encouraged for reasons of sustainability (Vision 20:25). Reasonable travel costs may be refunded if agreed in advance.
Many NEWS staff return year on year and look forward to spending time with their 'festival family'! It feels good to be able to help people get back to the good times at the event, and be a part of things. You will have plenty of tales to entertain the grandkids with. It also looks great on a CV and the Coordinator is happy to provide references.
