Summary
Peer Mentors use their lived experience of mental health challenges to support, guide and encourage other people for a period of time, in-person or remotely.Detailed description
Living with Mental Health needs can contribute to people feeling along and isolated. Connecting with someone who understands because they too have been affected by mental health challenges can really help.
Peer Connections is a 1:1 mentoring project covering Somerset for people affected by mental health challenges to give and receive support. We support people with serious mental illness: Bi-polar, Schizophrenia or Psychosis or those with a Personality Disorder. The project aims to help people with their health and wellbeing.
We are looking for volunteers who live in Somerset who are interested in volunteering as a peer and becoming Peer Mentors. You and the person you are supporting will share lived experience of what works for your, finding ways of achieving individual health and wellbeing goals through regular conversations over a time limited period.
Becoming a peer mentor volunteer may be important to you for various reasons: whether it's to connect with other people, support others through using your experiences, help with a sense of purpose or gain experience and confidence for employment.
Your experiences are a powerful tool that can be used to support others who have similar struggles with their mental health. Peer mentoring can be helpful to maintain your own recovery as well as being helpful to those receiving support.

In Rethink, people affected by mental illness are at the heart of everything we do. That is why our Peer Connections team is made up of Peer Mentors, volunteers who want to use their lived experience to become a peer and walk alongside somebody on their recovery journey.
We periodically recruit new volunteers throughout the year, but if you are interested please contact us to talk about our service and what we can do on [email protected].
