Parkrun volunteer

Parkrun brings the local community together every Saturday for a fun, friendly, 5km run/jog/walk and requires a team of volunteers to organise it every week. Tasks involve helping with setup, being a course marshal, scanning finishers’ barcodes, doing the timekeeping, handing out finish tokens, and then helping with packing everything away. Afterwards we go for coffees and breakfasts in Cheddar and a bit of a parkrun social get-together. You don’t need to have any particular interest in running or any experience with these types of roles - they are all very simple and full instruction is given on the day. There is usually a choice of roles available each week. We are affiliated with Winscombe Surgery who are a “parkrun prescribing practice”.

The whole thing takes about 90-120 minutes from setup to take-down but you don’t need to be on your feet all that time. You will be able to chat with other volunteers throughout, and will be sure to meet old and make new friends. You don’t need to volunteer every week but we like to have the roster planned by Thursday so you just need to let us know on a week by week basis if you can help. The only requirement is to pre-register (for free) at the main parkrun UK website, which is a requirement of parkrun HQ for insurance reasons and to ensure you receive your volunteer credits.
