Reception Volunteer

St Margaret’s is looking for people to join the team who will bring their skills, talent and enthusiasm to the heart of our organisation as we respond to the changing needs of our community.

This is a voluntary role.

 

About you

If you have experience in customer service and have a high standard of communication skills, are looking to learn and develop your skills and can share in our vision and enthusiasm to make a difference, we would love to talk to you about this role and the work of St Margaret’s.

Times available for this volunteer role: 

  • Wednesday morning ( weekly)
  • Thursday morning ( weekly)
  • Friday afternoon ( fortnightly)

Time commitment

  • The commitment of a Reception Volunteer is discussed and agreed by the Volunteer Administrator and the Volunteer prior to commencement of the role, we usually ask for 4 hours per week/fortnight.
  • You are required to attend induction and update training

 

Brief description of main tasks and activities

The Reception Volunteer is responsible for

  • Operating the telephone system, receiving and transferring calls
  • Handling sensitive calls and situations
  • Welcoming patients, relatives and visitors and putting them at ease, informing the relevant person of their arrival
  • Supporting contractors with completing site registration
  • Assist with occasional admin tasks
  • Recording parcels on the computer and advising recipient of its arrival by phone or email
  • Assisting with the fire procedure if the alarm sounds
  • Use of the till for shop sales
  • Receiving donations if the fundraising team are unavailable and completing a donation envelope.
  • Ensuring security of reception area by following opening and closing procedures

Our care is available for those who have a terminal or life-limiting illness, for example cancer, motor neurone disease and chronic lung disease.
