Where you will be based: St Margarets Hospice Hub, Taunton

Day/ Time: Wednesday / Thursday mornings

Frequency: Weekly


St Margaret’s is looking for people to join the team who will bring their skills, talent and enthusiasm to the heart of our organisation as we respond to the changing needs of our community.

This is a voluntary role.

 

About you

If you have experience or an interest in supporting people in a day care setting, co-ordinating creative arts and activities to meet social needs of patients, are looking to learn and develop your skills and can share in our vision and enthusiasm to make a difference, we would love to talk to you about this role and the work of St Margaret’s.

Time commitment

  • We are looking for a regular commitment of one morning a week – Wednesday or Thursday mornings (4 hrs)
  • You are required to attend an induction and refresher training as required

Brief description of main tasks and activities

St. Margaret’s Hospice Care runs two Sunflower Centres (Yeovil and Taunton). These day hospice hubs provide therapeutic services for adults who have a progressive life limiting illness.

The Sunflower Centre Day Hospice Volunteer is responsible for

  • Providing a welcoming and relaxing environment for Sunflower Centre patients.
  • To plan and develop the provision of individual creative activities for patients, to facilitate diversion, nurturing and encouraging independence, and maintaining existing skills.
  • Working with the Team to encourage, support and enable patients to choose, plan and complete personal goals and projects.
  • Volunteer to highlight any concerns or observations regarding patients to the Sunflower Lead.
  • Volunteer to feedback to Sunflower Centre Day Hospice staff after each session
  • Follow good infection control practices at all times
  • Assisting with serving meals and drinks.
  • Helping to keep the Unit in a serviceable and tidy state and replenish stocks.

About St Margarets Hospice Care

We are committed to providing specialist palliative care, advice, support and respite to patients and their families living in Somerset and parts of neighbouring counties. Our care is available for those who have a terminal or life-limiting illness, for example cancer, motor neurone disease and chronic lung disease.
