Summary

We welcome volunteers to join our friendly team, displaying SwapShop contributions that come in to our community reuse project in Henstridge

Detailed description

We have between 40-70 SwapShop visitors per day to The Honesty Jar, there is always heaps of treasure to sort through and display on shelves and rails to give visitors access to affordable clothes, books, shoes, games, toys, homeware, textiles and keep valuable resources out of landfill. Items are not priced, visitors pop a voluntary contribution in ‘The Jar’. There are usually three volunteers on each shift (10am-1pm/1pm-4pm). Full training and support given. We process 70 tonnes of donations per year with our fabulous team of 30+ local volunteers. There is a flexible rota, shifts can be regular or ad-hoc, to fit in with your other commitments. We are open 10am-4pm six days a week based in the grounds of a family run garden centre, closed Wednesdays. We look forward to hearing from you.

About The Honesty Jar

'The Honesty Jar' itself is a pot to receive voluntary contributions. This is a community SwapShop where you can take things and exchange them for either other things and/or pop a contribution in ‘The Jar’. Our team of 40 volunteers process 70 tonnes of donated items every year. We also run craft and repair workshops. Profits run family friendly community events and training sessions for home carers and youth groups on topics such as autistic spectrum disorder, dementia awareness, mental health and conflict management.
Items are also gifted to those in need through local organisations supporting homelessness, rehabilitation, isolation, hardship and refugees. The Honesty Jar project started in 2019 by local non-profit group BearCat Collective, who have been running these SwapShops on a pop-up basis as part of many other community activities at various village halls, fetes and shows around North Dorset & South Somerset for the last 14 years.
We are based at Grassroots Garden Centre on the main road in Henstridge on the Dorset / Somerset border, open 10am till 4pm every day of the week except Wednesdays.
