Summary

We are looking for a Trustee to join our board who is passionate about helping people in need.

Detailed description

We are a grant-giving charity that supports projects that improve, fix and repair buildings, homes and facilities specifically used by people in need throughout the UK.

We are seeking a Trustee with energy and drive to join the Screwfix Foundation’s Board of Trustees to steer the charity’s strategy and shape our future ambition and impact.

You will be joining a charity in strong position. Since launching in 2013 we have raised over £14m and donated these funds to nearly 3000 charities and not-for-profits.

Commitment

Trustees are expected to make an active contribution to the Foundation. This includes preparing for and participating in quarterly Trustee meetings, which are normally two hours long and held during working hours in Yeovil. Ideally, attendance will be in person, but attendance remotely can also be facilitated.

Between the meetings, you will also have a quarterly 30 minute call with the Foundation Manager who will discuss with you progress against our objectives and strategy and collaborate with you on deliverables.

At least once a year, Trustees also visit projects that we have supported.

There will be an initial term commitment of 2 years with a 4-month probationary period.  Trustees can be re-elected every 2 years.

Responsibilities

Working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees, you will provide strategic, financial and governance oversight in line with our charitable purpose. The main responsibilities are:

•       Ensure the Foundation manages its resources effectively to make the greatest impact possible.

•       Make sure the Foundation complies with its governing rules and acts for the benefit of those in need.

•       Ensure proper financial controls are in place and evaluate the performance of the Foundation against agreed targets.

•       Support the Screwfix Foundation Manager in developing and delivering the strategy.

•       Safeguard the reputation and values of the Foundation.

Skills required

•       Experience of management or leadership roles, demonstrating strategic vision.

•       Able to work effectively in a team and make decisions for the good of the Foundation.

•       Sound and independent judgement, and a willingness to participate in discussions.

·       Understanding the duties and responsibilities of being a Trustee and a Company Director (specific guidance will be provided).
