Responsible to: The Charity Commissioners and the public at large.
Purpose of the Role: To ensure the Association's future collaboratively, aligning its work with stated charitable objectives and acting in the best interests of current and future beneficiaries.
Main duties:
Oversight and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with legal and financial requirements (e.g., Health and Safety, Employment Law, Data Protection, Charity Commission).
- Maintain good practice standards.
- Ensure financial viability.
- Protect and insure the Association's property and resources.
- Properly invest the Association's funds.
- Regularly review policies based on stakeholder feedback and other data.
Support and Influence:
- Reflect YMCA principles and values in the Association's objectives and Board
- activities.
- Consider all stakeholders' needs in planning processes.
- Deploy resources exclusively for charitable objectives.
- Represent the YMCA in external networks to promote the charity's work and identify new opportunities.
- Actively engage in Board development.
- Ensure appropriate appointment, training, support, and supervision of staff and volunteers.
- Help identify and secure external income and new funding streams.
Personal Contribution:
- Utilise their specific skills and understanding to support the work of the Board.
- Provide advice and guidance on new initiatives and community activities.
- Think creatively and contribute to the formation and regular review of the Association's top-level strategy.
- Attend all meetings and actively participate in Board activities.
- Engage in training and development.
- Avoid personal profit from the position (reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses is allowed) unless otherwise permitted by the Charity Commission or Constitution.
- Report any personal activities with other bodies that may impact the charity.
Terms of Appointment:
- All roles are voluntary and unpaid.
- Expenses incurred in fulfilling duties will be reimbursed.
- Board meetings are held every eight weeks at our Lisieux Way Centre.
