Become an Ageing Well Volunteer and you'll bring older people together for gentle exercise sessions, a chance to be sociable and to have a laugh.
A fun opportunity to help older people stay fit and to socialise by bringing them together for chair-based activity sessions.
Ageing Well Volunteers lead groups of older people in gentle exercise & fun. If you have a good sense of humour and enjoy socialising, this would be a great role for you.
Most people, whatever their age or condition, benefit from physical activity and this is where our Ageing Well Volunteers come in!
We run a wide range of exercise classes in both Somerset and North Somerset. Some of these are run by volunteers and some are taught by experienced instructors, supported by volunteers.
We have volunteers leading our Sit, Fit, Fun groups - these weekly chair-based activity sessions usually take place in retirement accommodation and feature music, games and gentle exercise. These sessions are very sociable and good fun.
No experience is necessary as full training will be provided - sessions are run throughout the year.
Volunteers are needed to join the Ageing Well team across the whole of Somerset and North Somerset.
For our Ageing Well volunteering role we are looking for people who would like to help older people in their community, who can spare a couple of hours every week or so, enjoy physical activity and have a great sense of humour as having fun in your classes will be of the utmost importance!

What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costs🤝 Extra supportAbout Age UK Somerset
There is much to celebrate about getting older, but our later years can also prove challenging: loss of confidence, lack of mobility, financial pressures and suffering from loneliness and isolation are just some of the issues our local older people face.
We offer a wide range of popular and well-used services and activities specifically developed to meet the needs of the over 60s and we need Volunteers to help us run them. These include our Wellbeing Service - including Walk and Talk, Wellbeing Friends and Friendly Phone Calls - Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy ‘Memory Connections’ groups, Information and Advice service and lots of fun Ageing Well activity sessions. These services can not be provided without the support of our wonderful Volunteers.
As a Volunteer, whatever time you can afford to give and whichever of our many roles you decide suits you the best, your contribution will be helping more older people to enjoy a happier and healthier later life.
NOW more than ever WE NEED YOUR HELP…. A lot of older people are turning to us for support and these services can only continue with the support of people like you.
