Marine Society and Sea Cadets Somerset and Dorset Branch
About Marine Society and Sea Cadets Somerset and Dorset Branch
The Sea Cadets introduces young people to the maritime world through Unit-based activities on and off the water. It teaches youngsters (often from very poor or under-privileged backgrounds) life skills, gives them self-confidence and most importantly experience of working as part of a team in a challenging but exciting environment. Sea Cadets help develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive - teamwork and leadership, plus the opportunity to work towards qualifications in a number of accredited courses. In Somerset and Dorset some 400 cadets are managed through 10 Units run and supported by volunteer staff. The Somerset and Dorset Branch of the MSSC is a group of members (currently just under 100) who utilise their annual membership fee and fund raise to enable the Cadets to experience waterborne activities ranging from offshore sailing in the TS Royalist to Paddle Boarding on inshore waters. At the heart of all our activity is providing the best possible Cadet experience and enabling Cadets to develop their potential. The Branch is organised by a small committee of volunteers.
The Somerset and Dorset Branch is entirely self funded through membership donations and donations from local business and events.
